Interesting place in Letohrad
Orlice Stronghold - 2km
Orlice Stronghold is located on the outskirts of the town of Letohrad. The residence was probably founded at the end of the 13th century, and in the 16th century the fort was converted to a Renaissance chateau. After the nobility moved out of Orlice in 1650 for Kyšperk Castle, the building was converted for farming use. In 2008, EYWAN s.r.o. purchased Orlice Stronghold and it began work to renovate the complete site. Thus in 2012 a new tourist destination was created in East Bohemia, offering visitors not only tours of the renovated fort with its original Gothic and Renaissance cellars, weapons collection, functional historic printing shop and other exhibitions, but also a restaurant, mediaeval tavern and accommodation - Orlice Stronghold Hotel ****. It won't just be children who will find the 'Enchanted Wood' engaging an exhibition of stuffed animals from the Czech Republic. This historical building featuring rare preserved structures from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras is a cultural monument (a listed heritage site). The restaurant at the fort with covered seating on the ramparts (in summer) is open daily. The stone bastion in the courtyard can be used for holding cultural events. The fort site and hotel lie in the beautiful countryside of the Orlické foothills. Children will particularly enjoy our playground with zip line and climbing frame, while there is an eagle-owl and coati in the courtyard aviary. The surroundings of the fort are great for cycling or skiing.
